How it plays

Video game screenshot showing survival gameplay

Survive until dawn

A night lasts 5, 8 or 12 minutes depending on how brave you are. Make it to sunrise and you win. Get caught and you're the tea.

Video game screenshot showing multiple monsters

Four monsters, four rules

Run from Hungry. Freeze for Thirsty. Look away from the Hymotyzer. Trap Rope Guy. Each one hunts in its own way.

Video game screenshot underwater at night

Hide, swim, sneak

Hiding holes, diving underwater in the oasis (if you can hold your breath long enough), and secrets for the brave.

Play with friends

Up to four of you, over the internet, with a six-letter code. If a friend gets caught, you've got thirty seconds to free them.

Where you play

The Lab in Hungry for Tea

The Lab

Where every night begins. Train against each monster, collect what you've found, and read what's new.

Desert Dusk map

Desert Dusk

Dunes, rocks and a lot of places to hide. The first map, and the one that started it all.

Hidden Oasis map

Hidden Oasis

Water you can dive into. Just remember: monsters can swim too.

And when you've beaten Hard…

Infinity mode. No dawn. The night just keeps going, and the monsters keep getting faster. Benjamin's idea. Locked until you've survived a full Hard night, properly, with no help.

FROM THE BOARD TO THE SCREEN

The video game isn't the board game on a screen, but almost every idea in it started on the board.

On the board

Land on a yellow square: SCARED. Lose two lives.

In the video game

Get caught by a monster: you're the tea.

On the board

The Golden Compass. You need it to enter the Secret Passage.

In the video game

The Golden Compass. The rarest thing in the desert; open it and it shows you where the monsters are.

On the board

Survive a full lap of the desert.

In the video game

Survive until dawn. About ten minutes.

On the board

The Mirage Cloak protects you from SCARED.

In the video game

The Mirage Cloak is in the game. Collect it, then use it, and the monsters can't see you.

On the board

Mystery cards: the Sand Thief, the Desert Vortex, Dune Shift.

In the video game

They became the desert's behaviour: sandstorms, shifting dunes and things that change in the night.

On the board

Challenges: roll the right number or stay stuck.

In the video game

Doesn't translate directly. In the video game, the challenge is the night itself.

On the board

The four monsters.

In the video game

The same four monsters, same personalities, now they move.

The aim

Make your way round the desert, survive what it throws at you, and enter the Secret Passage, but only if you're holding the Golden Compass and you've completed a full lap first.

What makes it tense

Challenges

Roll the right number or stay stuck. Chain them together and you can fly round the board.

Mystery cards

The Sand Thief, the Desert Vortex, Dune Shift… the desert is never fair for long.

Scared

Land on yellow and lose 2 lives, unless you've got the Mirage Cloak.
